MCU: 10 Big Missed Opportunities
3. The Defenders
While the movies of the MCU moved through the Infinity Saga to the eventual final battle with Thanos, the Netflix corner of the universe had its own crossover. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist teamed up to form the Defenders in 2017, and though they existed in the same universe as the Avengers, there was absolutely zero crossover.
There are several references throughout these shows to the wider MCU, but nothing in the movies to ever acknowledge the existence of these heroes. In 2016, when Tony Stark was forming Team Iron Man to go to battle with Team Cap, he drafted in a 14-year-old kid, Peter Parker, rather than looking to the Defenders.
While this was the start of Tony's wonderful relationship with Spider-Man, it begs the question why didn't he speak to the Devil of Hell's Kitchen? Or the man with unbreakable skin that made Harlem a safer place?
In Endgame, when Doctor Strange brings every hero and every army he could find to the battle, Wong asks the Sorcerer Supreme if he wanted more? Well, actually yes, it would have been nice for these four to finally be recognised and integrated into the MCU properly. Thankfully, we won't have this problem with the Disney+ shows coming up in the next few years.
