MCU: 10 Big Questions Surrounding Phase Four
1. How Closely Will Love And Thunder Follow The Comics?
When Marvel announced Thor: Love and Thunder at Comic Con, just the logo and the return of Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Taika Waititi was enough to send fans crazy. Nothing else was needed, but Kevin Feige and Waititi must have felt the Hall H crowd, and Marvel fans in general, deserved a little more.
Returning to the Thor franchise for the first time since The Dark World, Natalie Portman's Jane Foster will take on the Thor mantle in the 2021 MCU installment, as the director takes inspiration directly from the comics. This doesn't mean that we can guess exactly what will happen simply by looking through the source material however, as the MCU has always adapted and changed the stories told in the source material.
When Jane first wields Mjolnir and gains the powers that come with it, her identity is secret even to Thor himself. This seems unlikely to happen in Love and Thunder as the audience is already clued in, wasting any potential jaw-dropping reveals. It remains to be seen whether or not Disney will swerve Jane's cancer from the comics, or whether they'll retain the same reason for her worthiness for their own adaptation.
So, what can we expect to see? Which aspects of the story will Waititi adapt, and which will he leave in the books? 2021 can't come soon enough.
