Since 2017, through Ragnarok, Infinity War, and Endgame, no character has gone through what Thor has gone through. He has lost his entire family, he lost his home, and half the universe's population lost their lives because he didn't go for the head.

Even after he got his revenge against a weakened Thanos, he spiraled into a pit of depression and alcoholism with Korg and Miek, only agreeing to help with the time heist because there was beer on the ship.

Yet even after all this, at the climax of Endgame it seemed as though the God of Thunder found a new sort of family with the Guardians of the Galaxy. He spent some time with the group in Infinity War, and left Earth with them after forming a deeper connection with Rocket on Asgard in 2013. This seemed to be setting up Thor's appearance in what would surely have been 'Asgardians of the Galaxy'. Thor even says it himself on the ship!

Yet, with his next appearance coming in 2021, and Guardians Vol 3 not coming until Phase Five, something must happen to drive the pirate angel and Star-Lord's rag tag family apart. Why are they not flying through space arguing about who the team's leader is?
