MCU: 10 Big Questions Surrounding Phase Four
8. Who Is Shang-Chi?
Alongside the Eternals, the other main character announced by Kevin Feige that is not as well known as the others is Shang-Chi. Everybody is familiar with Thor, Doctor Strange, and Black Widow, but much like the Guardians of the Galaxy when they were first announced, Shang-Chi is a much lesser known entity.
Introduced in the comics in 1973, Shang-Chi is one of the most skilled fighters in the Marvel universe. The master of Kung-Fu has also had the ability to create multiples of himself, and has kept company with some big names in the world of comics.
He has been a member of the Heroes for Hire, has fought with the Protectors, and was recruited to the Avengers by Captain America and Iron Man themselves. However, the comics version of a character is often quite different to the MCU version. In the comics, Ultron was created by Hank Pym, whereas the MCU depiction was the result of Tony Stark's genius, and Zemo was adapted to be Sokovian rather than German as in the comics.
These examples are to say that the MCU may well adapt Shang-Chi's character to better fit the MCU in some way. Exactly how/if this will be done is, as of right now, a complete mystery.
