MCU: 10 Big Questions Surrounding Phase Four
5. Who Is The Villain Of The Multiverse Of Madness?
Throughout Doctor Strange in 2016, the main antagonist was Kaecilius with Dormammu lurking in the background. Mordo however - one of Strange's greatest enemies from the comics - did not turn against his fellow sorcerer as many would have expected, waiting until the post-credit scene to reveal his evil intent. Seemingly, this teased the character's evolution from Karl Mordo to the villainous Baron Mardo, setting up Chiwetel Ejiofor's character as the main antagonist for the sequel.
However, from what Scott Derrickson has said about the movie, this may not be the case. The director has stated this film will explore what made the character so great in the comics, namely fighting bad guys not of this world or even this universe.
This certainly doesn't sound like Mordo. While he may return as a secondary villain, following the footsteps of Crossbones and Ulysses Klaue to potentially be killed off early, he won't be the big bad of the movie.
So who will? Doctor Strange has no shortage of cosmic enemies, one of which he has already bargained with in the MCU. Could Dormammu return in the multiverse, or will Derrickson opt for a new villain like Mephisto or Nightmare?
