MCU: 10 British Villains In Marvel's Cinematic Universe - Ranked Worst To Best
7. Chiwetel Ejiofor - Karl Mordo
They say that villains are the heroes of their own stories, and it's as true in the MCU as anywhere else. Doctor Strange may have been Stephen's origin story, but it's his mentor whose character arc is as big as it gets when he goes from training sorcerers to leaving them crippled. Although the full extent of his villainy isn't revealed until after the credits, all the threads which lead to this are there throughout.
Like Kaecilius before him, Mordo was a Master of the Mystic Arts who believed in what he was fighting for, but his conviction in the Ancient One is tested when the fight against Dormammu reveals the truth about his order. Ever the man of unwavering faith however, rather than lash out at sorcerers through some need for revenge, Mordo's desire to rid the world of them is built upon his own logic of how he can continue to serve - and maintain - the balance of power in the Multiverse.
Anyone who has seen his performance as the determined Operative in Serenity was left in anticipation as to what the underrated Chiwetel Ejiofor could bring to the role from here, and the fact there has been no official word of his return means this particular teaser is the biggest unanswered question of the entire franchise.
