MCU: 10 Characters Destined To Leave The Franchise In Phase 5
7. War Machine
With Robert Downey Jr exiting last year in Avengers: Endgame, there's a chance that those close to his character (except Happy Hogan funnily enough) have left the franchise too.
That would mean the likes of Pepper Potts and James Rhodes have probably had their moment in the sun, but with no details to confirm this there is only speculation as to whether or not Don Cheadle will make another appearance down the line.
Don Cheadle is very entertaining in his role as War Machine and it would be a shame to say the last time we saw him was at Tony Stark's funeral. If Marvel Studios were to bring one particular comic book thread to the films, we could see a romance develop between War Machine and Captain Marvel (which may or may not have been hinted at in Endgame).
If this is the case, we could expect War Machine to make an appearance in Captain Marvel 2 in Phase 5, but maybe we should not expect him to dig his feet in the foundations for too long. Don Cheadle's contracts are up, and he's currently not in any plans for future products. His appearance in Captain Marvel 2 could mark his exit.
