MCU: 10 Fascinating Facts Behind Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
10. Edgar Wright Collaborated On The Soundtrack To Avoid Baby Driver Crossovers
The soundtrack is an integral part of the Guardians franchise (hell, the second film's title is even an ode to its in-movie mixtape), and its eclectic selection of iconic rock and pop tracks from the late 20th Century awarded it with such a distinct personality. However, there was another little movie in production at the same time as Guardians 2 which similarly used music as the heart and soul of its story and style, Edgar Wright's Baby Driver.
The director of that flick revealed shortly after Marvel's film dropped that he actually acknowledged the similarities, and slid into James Gunn's Twitter DMs to hold a "secret conversation" to make sure there was no crossover between the soundtracks. Talking to the Washington Post, Wright explained how the exchanges went:
“So it just went back and forth [...] where we’re playing this amazing guessing game where neither of us would say what the tracks were but we’re just confirming that the same artists were not on the soundtrack.”
