Taserface is kind of a two-bit villain in Guardians 2. He's goofy, overacted and macho to the point of parody, and while that's entirely the point (as the film later reveals he was nothing but a throwaway villain intended to disguise the real threat of Ego), the characterisation does rob old Taserface of his rather fascinating comic-book backstory.

Though it's never referred to in the film, in the source material he's a member of a race of aliens who worship Tony Stark as a god. This is because, at one point, Iron Man jettisoned a piece of his own advanced technology into space, which this species stumbled across and unwittingly used to advance their technological know-how rapidly, wielding its power to dominate their enemies and advance their civilisation.

Because of this, and without knowing what the hell a "Tony Stark" was, they took to naming themselves after the alien artefact that awarded them so much power.
