MCU: 10 Marvel Movie Characters Who've Changed The Most

5. Groot

Baby Groot

In the first Guardians film, Groot is basically the team's version of Hulk - if a little more pensive and logical. He was a weapon of mass destruction and a one man army who protected Rocket fiercely and who ultimately sacrificed himself to save his new family.

In the sequel, he's still as emotionally tied to his Guardians family, but in an entirely different way. He now requires protection, is almost useless in battle (unless he's required to climb into small spaces or faces a terrified single enemy) and is as impulsive and reckless as a toddler.

He's also a far better dancer, probably.

What Caused The Changes?

Dying. You might not accept that Groot died in the first film, because he was repotted and reborn for the sequel, but that's exactly what happened. James Gunn has clarified that Baby Groot doesn't have Groot's memories, so he's essentially an entirely different character.

His recklessness is all down to age too, as his genesis is very much reflective of a human child's development (hence the hilarious Teen Groot post-credits scene).
