MCU: 10 Most Underrated Performances

1. Tom Vaughan-Lawlor - Ebony Maw

Dublin-born actor, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor is, by no means, a household name. But if you're a comic fan, you definitely recognise the character he portrayed. Thanos may have been the scariest foe in the Avengers: Infinity War but his lieutenant, Ebony Maw, was a close second. This noseless alien may not look like much but due to his telekinetic powers, he has proven capable of holding his own against the mightiest Avengers.

Although the CGI for the psychic extra-terrestrial is exquisite, it's Vaughan-Lawlor's performance which makes Maw so chilling. Even though Maw churns out villain dialogue like there's no tomorrow, you are constantly enraptured by his every utterance. Despite being boundlessly evil, his monologues are so compelling, you can tell he truly believes his master's cause is for the greater good. Infinity War boasted over 40 iconic characters and yet, Maw was one of the most memorable despite being among the least-known supervillains in the MCU.

Vaughan-Lawlor is so phenomenal as the insidious soldier, viewers collectively groaned in disappointment when he was killed off, since they desperately wanted to see more of this guy. Although Josh Brolin gave the best performance in Infinity War, it shouldn't retract from Tom Vaughan-Lawlor's mind-blowing work.
