MCU: 10 Real World Issues Addressed In Marvel Films
1. Captain America Civil War: Global Accountability
The latest in the list of hyper-political Captain America films (all three of which show up on this list for obvious reasons), the way Civil War addresses global politics is frightening in its scale and reality. Though it tries to distract from the galling truth with some super punch-ups, the fact that, realistically, the Avengers would be a terrifying, threatening force to the world as they are, is not shied away from.
In a modern, globalised society, superheroes will be questioned and scrutinised, especially those under the power of the US government, whose own history of violent interference on foreign soil is damning enough.
The political discussion between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers has merit on both sides, with a post-Winter Soldier Steve Rogers uncertain of world governments and their agendas, and a weathered Tony Stark reminding him that their actions aren't divorced from the world they live in - especially when their actions get people killed. Doubly so when it happens without the consent of the countries they're operating in.
The film tackles the implications of superheroes in the modern world, but finds no definitive solution - because for this issue, there is no easy answer.
