MCU: 10 Things That Repeat WAY Too Much

1. Heroes And Villains With The Same Power

Or as it's known more commonly, "Same vs Same".

Whether it's a suit of armour, physical abilities or corrupted energy, the hero will almost always face off against someone who is exactly the same as them in everything other than ideology.

This often occurs in a character's debut film. Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ant Man and even Wandavision - each toyed with the archetype of the main villain having very similar powers to the hero.

I get it: Sometimes the worst enemy a hero can face is themselves. But since we're not quite at a stage in the MCU where watching the Silver Surfer punch himself is considered a cathartic conclusion, we have to settle for villains taking on similar powers to the hero.

Whilst a number of the fighting set pieces are impressive, fun and engaging, there is something tame and bland in two characters of similar power going toe-to-toe. It's like playing Street Fighter and choosing Ryu, only for the person you're against to pick them as well, leaving two colour-pallet swapped versions teeing off.

Thankfully, after the debut film, most sequels (so far) have thrown in villains with different abilities, creating a lot more variety on screen. Let's hope future film debuts do away with this nonsense altogether, and we get some good old-fashioned hero-bashing.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
