MCU: 10 Things That Repeat WAY Too Much

The perfect recipe for a generic MCU film is right here.

There's no question about it, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a delightful romp that for over a decade now has spilled onto movie screens and streaming services across the globe.

And while we have seen an impressive multitude of characters, storylines, set pieces and action extravaganzas, there are times when the franchise has repeated itself. Not in a sequels and reboot kind of way. But anyone who has even dipped a little toe into the makings of the MCU franchise knows that Disney has a brand, and that brand can sometimes make the films feel a little... paint by numbers?

In this list, we'll be taking a look at ten of the most repeated MCU plot points that, quite frankly, need to go.

Each of these attributes are becoming almost parody at this point, and the longer they continue the more absurd the MCU is going to become (and that's without the bi-annual alien invasions). The MCU can effortlessly guarantee bums in cinema seats now - Disney doesn't need to play it safe anymore.

So, let's hope they put a few of these to rest now and move on to more original ideas.

10. "Wormholes" As A Plot Device

At what point does a plot feature get overused? When it solves every problem? When you need to explain something away?

In the case of the MCU, its repeated love of wormholes hasn't come without a few benefits. The use of Doctor Strange and Wong turning their hissing orange portals into weapons is a perfect display of using a tool for something other than what it was designed for. And that scene in Avengers: Endgame where everyone assembles together like a school reunion does rank as one of the biggest goosebump moments in cinema history.

But for crying out loud, the MCU is turning wormholes and dimensional doors into a get-out-of-jail-free-card for almost any quick exit for a character.

Gone are the days in which a character has to walk a thousand miles or fly past a hundred planets just to have a conversation. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, sling-ring wormholes were practically a main character, and with Multiverse of Madness on the way there's no doubt they'll be front and centre with Dr. Strange more powerful than ever.

The orange rings aren't the only guilty party, though. Prior to them we had the Space Stone dropping Chitauri and Thanos anywhere they wanted, Dark Elves creating Convergences over London, and whatever the hell was happening with the Rainbow Bridge. It's like the MCU is constantly bored of wherever it is at that present moment, and must force some sort of other location into the mix.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
