MCU: 10 Things You Learn Rewatching Thor
4. It's The First Visually Stunning MCU Movie
For as good as the early MCU movies were, they didn't really offer anything new from a presentation standpoint that hadn't been seen before. That's partly the fault of the settings they used though, as there's only so many different ways you can capture a bland desert or the same cityscape that shows up in every comic-book movie.
Thor, on the other hand, was the first MCU film to really capture the colourful world of its comic-book inspiration. A setting like Asgard demanded a sense of spectacle that Marvel hadn't yet attempted to replicate, but fortunately the filmmakers were up to the challenge of bringing the cosmic side of the superhero universe to life.
Asgard itself, in all of its lush grandeur, is a fully-realised setting, but it's the more colourful locations such as the Bifrost and the never-ending backdrop of galaxies which are the most impressive. They helped massively in establishing a distinctive visual style that was entirely unique to the MCU, something which the series is otherwise tragically lacking in.
