MCU: 10 Things You Learn Rewatching Thor
5. Chris Hemsworth Is The MCUs' Most Underrated Actor
For the most part, Chris Hemsworth hasn't had many opportunities to flex his acting muscles as Thor. He's never been bad, but his characterisation throughout the movies has often been that of a grand, regal meathead, never really requiring the actor to get emotional or show any range.
That changed entirely with Thor: Ragnarok, which unlocked a side to the character Hemsworth had only flirted with previously, but going back to this original movie it's evident that he's always been a damn fine talent. Not only can he nail the Shakespearian grandeur as well as excelling at being an arrogant bonehead, but he brings a rather surprising amount of pathos to the role.
In particular, the scene where Loki visits him on Earth to spin a lie that Odin has died is beautifully played. Hemsworth channels the raw emotion necessary to wring every bit of drama out the scene, and this showcase acts as the first real sign of his depth, which sadly wouldn't be truly tapped into until years later.
