MCU: 10 Truly Insane Crossovers We Need To See
6. Howard The Duck Becomes An Avenger
George Lucas did Howard the Duck dirty in his abysmal 1986 big screen adaptation of the character, which scored four razzies on its way to being widely seen as one of the worst films ever made.
Howard's first foray into the cinemas proved so horrible that a whole generation of fans used the character as a byline for just how terrible cinematic comic book adaptations can get. The film so thoroughly salted the earth for Howard that it wasn't until 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy that Marvel even dared to try and bring him back (even then only in a brief cameo and a post-credit scene).
Howard wasn't always synonymous with camp stupidity. He had his heyday in the 70s as a cult counterculture hero. He was in fact so popular that a write-in presidential campaign reputedly garnered him thousands of votes in the 1976 presidential election.
Given Howard's appearance in Guardians and his brief appearance in the trailer for What If... Marvel's apparently all-in on attempting to rehabilitate the character's tarnished reputation. We will see what antics the wisecracking riff on Donald Duck gets up to in his episode of What If... but Marvel is definitely bringing him back.
Done right, the sarcastic cartoon could be another Deadpool. Done wrong, well, things could go very, very wrong indeed. Marvel is about to roll the dice and its time to see if the world is ready for another big screen adaptation of the enduring, cult antihero.
