MCU: 12 Changes From The Comics That Were Completely Justified
10. Yondu Is The Daddy - Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2
Ahead of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2's release, James Gunn revealed that the question of Star-Lord's father wasn't going to be a mystery anymore, as Ego The Living Planet was confirmed to be the real pappy.
This, of course, contradicts the comics, as Star-Lord's father is J'Son Of Spartax - and was rewritten to emphasise the disconnect between Peter and his father. How more distant from someone could you be than from a giant living planet, after all?
But the more notable change came in the shape of Peter's relationship with Yondu. In the comics, Peter was raised on Earth, and never meets Yondu (they live 1000 years apart), who raises him as his son in the movies. That was a far better choice for making Peter's backstory interesting and it gave us one of the most devastating moments in MCU history when Yondu sacrifices himself to save Peter. That alone is worth the change to all of the characters.
