If you weren't an avid comic book reader the first time you saw this movie, there's a good chance you thought that Steve and Bucky's (Sebastian Stan) friendship was just pretty typical war movie camaraderie and not much else.

Two Captain America movies later, though, with the knowledge of what Bucky becomes and how important his and Steve's friendship is to the MCU as a whole, it's fascinating to go back and see the earnest beginnings of their time together.

Bucky saving a scrawny Steve from an alley-way beating is an almost inconceivable starting point today, but knowing what we do now, Bucky's role in the film seems that much more interesting and crucial. At the time of the movie's release? He seemed like a far more conventional sidekick.

In a sense, this dynamic has improved with time.
