MCU: 12 Things You Learn Rewatching Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
8. Baby Groot Is Used Surprisingly Sparingly
Perhaps the biggest concern ahead of Vol. 2's release was that it would over-indulge in Baby Groot's cutesiness, giving him too much screen time to the point where it's grating or just straight-up pandering to audiences.
After all, he's the movie's biggest merchandising opportunity, so it wouldn't surprise anyone if Marvel's bean-counters insisted upon x minutes of screen time for the little guy.
Though 'Lil Groot is featured heavily throughout the film, Gunn does a great job of peppering these beats pretty evenly across the movie's run-time, such that never once does it feel like he's excessively lingering on him.
The trailers probably shouldn't have spoiled that bomb gag ahead of time, but Baby Groot is one of the movie's easy highlights, and for all of the film's many indulgences, he surprisingly isn't really one of them (apart from his dancing in that opening sequence).
