7. The Taserface Joke Is Totally Lame
There's one single gag in this movie that really sticks out as a bit of a misfire, and that's the entire character of Taserface (Chris Sullivan). The mutinous Ravager is obsessed with using his name to strike fear into his enemies' hearts, though both Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and a Sovereign woman both end up laughing uncontrollably about it.
This clearly played out much funnier in James Gunn's head than it did in reality. In part it's because Rocket's excessive laughter feels like a lazy attempt to make the whole scene seem funnier to the audience than it actually is, and scenes that prompt the audience to laugh so aggressively rarely work.
It ultimately comes down to the name Taserface just not being that funny. It's more randomly nonsensical than anything, and so playing the gag out for so long feels a little misguided. This probably should've just been left on the cutting room floor, honestly.
