MCU: 12 Worst Casting Decisions In Marvel Movies

9. Natalie Portman – Jane Foster

Thor Heimdall Idris Elba
Marvel Studios

It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to call Natalie Portman one of the most talented actresses of her generation. In her varied career, we’ve seen her play everything from a hitman's pre-teen protégé to an unhinged ballet dancer to former first lady Jackie Kennedy – all testament to her acting prowess.

Casting her as brilliant astrophysicist Jane Foster in Thor makes sense on paper, but her performance quickly devolved from independent career woman to girlishly infatuated love interest in warp speed. She doesn’t feel invested enough in the role to elevate her character above lovelorn girlfriend, and by the time Thor: The Dark World rolled around her performance felt more than a tad phoned in.

Funnily enough, she won’t be returning for Thor: Ragnarok later this year which is probably the best for everyone – Portman and Marvel fans alike.
