MCU: 15 Huge New Details Marvel Just Revealed At Comic Con
13. Captain Marvel Is Set In The 90s
In one of the most shocking revelations concerning the MCU, it turns out that Captain Marvel will get around the fact that it's stuck slap-bang between two Avengers movies (and in the middle of an unfolding arc, by that virtue) by not being set then at all.
Kevin Feige announced that the film will in fact be set during the 1990s, and that Samuel L Jackson will appear, well before the Avengers Initiative is even a thing.
The biggest question here is one of time-lines: if Captain Marvel is set during the 90s, and Brie Larson is playing her, how can Brie Larson still be playing her in Infinity War (or just in Avengers 4)? The only feasible answer is that the 90s movie will be an origin story, and that its end will see Marvel frozen in time somehow, just as Captain America was, to be revived at the time of Infinity War.
Could that mean that Captain Marvel will be freed from captivity within one of the Infinity Stones, just as Adam Warlock was in the comics (the Soul Stone is the obvious choice)? That might explain where she's been all this time and why she'll no doubt still look like Brie Larson without ageing make-up on when she turns up again. It wouldn't be enough to simply say she's been off in space somewhere without some sort of time-travelling element, and that's always a pain in the ass to track.
