Following the release of The Avengers, Lindsay Lohan commented that she was considered for a role in the movie, but the producers instead went with an "unknown."

Given that the movie has just three prominent female roles, and two of them were played by high-profile actresses (Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson), we're left to assume she's referring to Maria Hill and Cobie Smulders (not that Smulders was anything close to an unknown in 2011).

Would It Have Worked?: Even if you believe Lohan's claim, which isn't coming from the most reliable source, just...no. It's not that Lohan's a bad actress - when she's cast right, which is rarely, she's absolutely fine - but that her presence and infamy would distract completely from the character itself.

Smulders is meanwhile a great fit for the part and brings zero baggage with her, so even if Lohan was telling the truth, this was a bullet dodged for the MCU.

Then again, more than a few people would've loved to see Li-Lo turned to dust in that post-credits scene.
