Adam Sandler was one of several famous 90s comedians up for the voice role of Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) in Guardians of the Galaxy, the other major name being Jim Carrey.

Considering that this casting possibility was announced at the nadir of Sandler's cinematic output - in-between the releases of Jack and Jill and Grown Ups 2 - it's easy to see why it provoked such a vitriolic fan response.

Would It Have Worked?: We're going out on the limb here and saying yes. When Sandler gets worthy material and works with a talented filmmaker, he can produce magnfiicent results.

While Sandler's voice can be grating, it probably could've been shaped into something grittier and more interesting by Gunn with a little work.

Cooper was still the right way to go without question, but Sandler might've surprised people all things considered.
