MCU: 30 Actors Who Could Have Starred In Avengers: Infinity War
5. Amandla Stenberg (Shuri)
Amandla Stenberg is best remembered for playing Rue in The Hunger Games, but she was also in serious contention for the part of T'Challa's sister Shuri in Black Panther.
However, Stenberg ultimately stepped back from the process after deciding that her skin tone wasn't right for the part. She said, "These are all dark-skin actors playing Africans and I feel like it would have just been off to see me as a biracial American with a Nigerian accent just pretending that I’m the same color as everyone else in the movie."
This left the door open for the darker-skinned Letitia Wright to take the role, which she did splendid work with.
Would It Have Worked?: Stenberg's a talented actress, and most audiences probably wouldn't have cared about the skin tone "issue", but if it gave Internet commenters one less thing to complain about, it was probably the right call.
More than anything, though, Stenberg would've been just 18 years old at the time of shooting, and there's no world where she could convincingly pass as the 40-year-old Chadwick Boseman's sister.
