MCU: 5 Times Iconic Comic Characters Were Replaced In The Movies

2. Thor Replaces Silver Surfer

Silver Surfer Thor Ragnarok
Marvel Comics

Thor: Ragnarok saw the merging of several storylines from Marvel comics translated to the cinematic universe including Rangarok, Fear Itself and, of course, Planet Hulk.

Hulk becomes the champion of Sakaar similar to the way he does in Planet Hulk, and is eventually put into battle against a familiar hero. However, the top-billing hero he eventually has to face is different in the MCU than it is in the comic arc.

In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is set against the Hulk in the Grandmaster's arena, but in the comics, it's his fellow Defender, Silver Surfer. The two fight until Surfer's disc is destroyed in the melee and using the power cosmic, he frees all prisoners currently influenced by the discs.

In addition to these two, in the animated movie for Planet Hulk, the hero that Hulk has to square off against is Beta Ray Bill, which is even more similar to the events of Thor: Rangarok given the nature of Thor and Bill's nigh-identical powers.
