MCU: 8 Theories About Captain Marvel's Role In Avengers 4

2. She Wields The Gauntlet

If Thanos is to be fully, permanently stopped, as well as having his actions reversed, then the Infinity Gauntlet needs to be taken from his possession. It's no easy feat, but we saw just how close the Avengers and Guardians came in Infinity War, so it is doable - and perhaps more so now that it's been damaged.

With the addition of Captain Marvel, then, it's a task that could be easier, but there's also the question of what happens next. It's not the sort of thing you can just leave lying around unguarded, after all, and it needs a being of immense power to be able to wield it.

In the Infinity Gauntlet comic, it's Adam Warlock who assumes the Gauntlet and uses it to undo all of Thanos' destruction, but he won't be arriving until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 (assuming plans remain the same post-James Gunn's firing). That leaves a spot open then, even if it's not a direct adaptation of what happens in the comics, and Marvel is the most well-placed to fill it as a (partially) cosmic being of a higher power.

It'd then allow her to redistribute the Infinity Stones to a number of trusted allies, meaning they could remain in the MCU - and Doctor Strange can still have the Time Stone - for future use down the line if Kevin Feige and so desired.
