8. T'Challa Reaching Out To The World

MCU Captain America
Marvel Studios

T'Challa's life as Black Panther began in Captain America: Civil War, and he initially harboured the conventions of a vengeful soldier, seeking retribution after the murder of his father. By the end of the movie alone, this thirst for revenge was quashed, meaning Civil War had already evoked a sense of transition for Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther.

But naturally, when Black Panther got his own movie, the character development took a step further. As wise and noble a king as T'Challa was, his kingdom of Wakanda was still an introvert society. And the entire movie was based around the moral conundrum of such a kingdom facing the prospect of sacrificing its clarity in order to help those most in need across the world.

And so T'Challa broke the mold of his lineage by becoming a diplomat on the global council, an act which is still set to alter the entire narrative direction of the MCU, Phase 4 onwards. Announcing that Wakanda would reach out to the world in a non-violent manner served as a higher rite of passage to T'Challa, and took his kingly worthiness to new heights.
