MCU: Every Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie Ranked Worst To Best

9. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Some cynical folk - and DCEU fans - will often loudly complain that the MCU is way too invested in being funny for its own good, shoe-horning in gags for the sake of it, even when it's disruptive to the film's flow. Those people should have been delighted, then, that Marvel decided to hire Taika Waititi to make Thor: Ragnarok - since he effectively made the MCU's first true comedy.

Even despite the dramatic weight of the story he tells - and of the three major comic book arcs it's based upon - Waititi turned the colourful inter-galactic romp into a joyful, strange celebration of his own imagination. But it's not all just silliness: there's a serious look at Thor's quest to feel "worthy" and it almost feels like a coming-of-age story.

Cate Blanchett's Hela is great - even if she's occasionally left high and dry by the tone - and there's no compromise on the drama of the story because of the eye for laughs. That right there is the best justification for hiring Waititi in the first place.
