MCU: Every Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie Ranked Worst To Best

17. Thor (2011)

Thor 2011

It may seem that Thor coming in this low is a concrete indictment of poor quality, but the reality is that the jump in quality between The Incredible Hulk and Kenneth Branagh's Asgardian debut is positively inter-stellar. Because Thor is a very good movie.

Thanks to Branagh's eyes for theatricality (partly because of his experience with stage work and Shakespearean adaptations) and the perfect casting of both Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth, it's a far bigger success than it had any right to be.

Hiddleston's Loki - who is about as close to Shakespeare's Iago as possible - stands out a mile (which is why he's been so present in the MCU since), but the story - a blend of Norse mythology and Crocodile Dundee - is why it works so well.
