MCU Phase 4: 10 Things They Must Address (And Not Just Forget About)
2. The Sokovia Accords
If Civil War had any lasting impacts aside from being one of the best MCU films, it was the political effects of the Avengers' actions being brought to the forefront. The Sokovia Accords were introduced after several destructive events the Avengers were involved in, as an attempt to legitimise the heroes and keep them under control. The resulting schism tore the Avengers apart, meaning they wouldn't reunite until Thanos came a knocking.
The Accords are a major political proponent of the MCU. WandaVision touched on their relevance and they remain contentious, so hopefully writers of future MCU films will keep this in mind. Spider-Man 3 is a major potential source for clashes over the Accords considering the events of Far From Home's ending, but it shouldn't end there.
Maybe Doctor Strange's universe-hopping escapades will be enough to convince Earth's governments to tighten Accord restrictions, or they'll be so terrified of the possibilities that they'll drop the Accords entirely. No one can know for sure, but it's still worth a good amount of dialogue between to get positions on the laws clear, maybe even setting the stage for a new Civil War.
