MCU Phase 4: 10 Ways It's Setting The Stage For An Epic Phase 5

The X-Men are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Marvel Studios isn't rushing their introduction. In an ideal world, the likes of Wolverine and Professor X would have shown up in a last-minute Avengers: Endgame post-credits scene, but Disney knows they need to rehab the characters and allow audiences to forget disasters like Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants first.

In the comic books, the Eternals were responsible for creating the X-Gene (the gene in people which makes them mutants), so this movie - which was recently pushed all the way back to next November - will almost certainly address that in some way.

There's a good chance that will be in the present day when the Celestials return to Earth as, if nothing else, that would explain why mutants haven't appeared in the MCU before now. That could be slightly problematic, of course, as it robs characters like Wolverine and Professor X of their history, but there are ways around that, and there's no way these ancient God-like creatures won't make an impact.

By the time Phase 5 rolls around, the stage will have been set for mutants to become a huge part of this shared world in a very clever way.
