The Rumour:

At the moment, the Silver Surfer and his associated characters are all tied up with the Fantastic Four license at Fox. Given Disney are on the brink of taking over the company completely, however, it's no wonder fans have already begun contemplating what the character could contribute to the MCU in the future.

One such fan, and a man with a lot of behind-the-scenes pedigree, is Adam McKay. The director behind The Big Short, Vice and Anchorman has previously made public his love for the Surfer, and was even apparently in talks with Fox to make a film prior to Disney's takeover. As a co-writer for Marvel's Ant-Man he also has experience with the company, so he may just end up having his wish fulfilled within the next few years.

The Response:

This is where things get really exciting, because in between McKay stating that he'd like to do the Surfer and Vice premiering, he has since confirmed that his agent and Marvel have been having discussions.

Speaking to MTV news, the writer/director mentioned that talks with Marvel were progressing, which followed Feige himself saying that he was looking forward "to speaking with him more."

Either way, if Marvel want to integrate the Silver Surfer and other such characters into the MCU, they would do well to separate them from the Fantastic Four beforehand. That way they feel like a living, breathing part of the mythos, and not just some bolted-on addition.
