MCU Phase 5: 10 Major Spider-Man Predictions That Must Happen
Of the infinite possibilities, what will the web slinger's fate be once Phase 5 rolls around?
Of the many superhero properties that have graced the silver screen over the last 20 years, none have been more intriguing — and as incredibly unpredictable — as Spider-Man. Throughout two decades, Sony's most popular property has undergone significant changes every few years.
In 2002 Spidey made his way to the big screen only for Tobey Maguire's chapter to come to an end in 2007. In 2012, Andrew Garfield donned the mask and seemingly ushered in a new Spider-Man era only to see it shut down in 2015 with Tom Holland's inclusion in the MCU.
Since then, we've seen Spider-Man make a profound impact in the MCU as Sony began laying the foundation for their own universe based on the webhead's rogues' gallery.
With a Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel pending, all signs pointing to his inclusion in the next Avenger's lineup, and the potential for MCU's crossover into Sony's universe, we're left to wonder what will happen to Spider-Man and co. when Phase 5 finally arrives.
There are infinite directions Marvel could choose to send Spider-Man in, especially if the multiverse becomes a dominant plot element in Phase 4. With Sony's universe in mind, let's indulge speculation and predict what could happen.
10. Peter Parker Dies... At Least In The MCU
Peter Parker needs to die. Or at least the MCU needs to believe that this Spider-Man is truly dead.
This is obviously a problematic scenario for fans, the storyline, and the potential financial gains for Marvel/Sony, but Peter Parker cannot be "alive" once Phase 5 comes to an end. From a logistics perspective, the MCU will already be juggling too many new characters, including the X-Men and Fantastic Four. There will be too many new toys to play with and not enough room in the sandbox (or the budget).
Looking at it in terms of storyline, Peter Parker has been outed by Mysterio and will seek likely safe haven. Even if someone like Matt Murdock convinces the public that Parker is innocent (fingers crossed Daredevil makes his way into Spider-Man 3) Spider-Man will still find himself on a most-wanted list.
While he may be part of the next group of Avengers, Peter Parker's stories are best told when he's the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. He needs a break from being in the (storyline) spotlight and "killing" him is an effective way to move focus to another hero and potentially bring Parker back in a refreshing way in subsequent Phases.
