MCU Phase Four: 8 Marvel Legacy Heroes Who Need To Appear
5. Thor - (Possibly) Jane Foster
Chris Hemsworth can't go on playing Thor forever. The obvious way to replace him would be to follow recent comic books and introduce a female God(dess) of Thunder - really Thor's frequent love interest Jane Foster.
The problem with this, though, is that Natalie Portman is unlikely to hop back on board the MCU full-time. And, being totally honest, her Jane Foster was never the greatest of characters. It wouldn't be out of the question to recast Jane, but it might make more sense to just choose a different character to become the female Thor.
The obvious suggestion is for Thor to pass on his hammer to Valkyrie. As introduced in Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie is a fellow Asgardian warrior and her more cynical outlook would make for a great contrast to Hemsworth's more earnest hero. Tessa Thompson showed a lot of promise in the role, and fans have come out of the film wanting to see more from the character.
This one has even been given the Kevin Feige stamp of approval, as he has made it clear that he is not ruling out a female Thor, telling Movies.com:
“We always look back to the comics to get those ideas … sometimes very specific storylines like “Civil War,” sometimes just nuggets or characters like “Planet Hulk. So anything that’s happened in the comics, even a female Thor, become great potentials and the ideas from which future movies can be born.”
Sounds promising!
