It'd long looked like Black Panther was going to be a hit. But few, probably not even Kevin Feige, expected it to be such an all-conquering behemoth.

Ryan Coogler's movie has already grossed over $700m worldwide, and that's before it's even opened in China, the second-biggest market. Over $1 billion now seems quite likely, making it just the fifth MCU movie to pass that mark, and the first without Robert Downey Jr.

A sequel, though not confirmed, is definitely going to happen, and they won't want to wait too long before doing it. A typical three-year gap should be enough time to develop a story and hopefully get everyone (especially Coogler) back in, and the May release will be a sign of just how huge Black Panther has become.
