It wasn't until a few years later in Avengers: Infinity War that we really got to learn more about just how strong and powerful Thanos really was. Not only did he achieve his ultimate goal, which was to bring stability to the universe by wiping out half of all life, but he stood by his word and destroyed the stones so he could sit back and watch as the universe was able to start over.
