MCU: The Worst Thing EVERY Avenger Has Done

9. Guardians Of The Galaxy - Screwing Up The Plan To Stop Thanos

Star-Lord is somewhat aware of his own immaturity and embraces it, and that's what makes him such a great character - the same could be said with all of the Guardians of The Galaxy. However, that personality trait occasionally turns them all into liabilities - and that was demonstrated to a catastrophic extent in Avengers: Infinity War.

The universe-destroying Thanos was always a powerful dude, but with the Infinity Gauntlet on his left hand, he was almost unbeatable. And yet, Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Doctor Strange and most of the Guardians of the Galaxy almost did the impossible on Titan. The keyword being 'almost'.

Peter Quill's discovery that the Mad Titan had killed the love of his life, Gamora, resulted in him assaulting Thanos while the rest of the team had successfully put him to sleep. Inches away from removing the gauntlet - and saving half of the freakin' universe - the Avengers warned Quill to stop poking the beast... literally. Of course, he didn't listen and he only ended up waking Thanos and allowing him to recapture the gauntlet just as it was removed from his hand.

Nobody's critiquing Quill for giving Thanos everything he deserved, but if he had kept his emotions in check for a few short seconds, the infamous snap that wiped out half of all life would have never happened. And while this writer certainly isn't blaming Gamora here, if Drax, Mantis and Nebula had berated him more (given that he might have listened to them instead of the Avengers), or Rocket Raccoon hadn't abandoned them to help Thor, they might have prevented him from acting out.
