MCU: What Captain Marvel Means For Avengers: Endgame

4. Endgame Will Give Captain Marvel Her Name

A common trope among superhero films and TV shows is the lead character needing to 'earn' their classic costume over the course of the movie or series. While that doesn't quite happen in Captain Marvel, since she has the Starforce one and changes it when she discovers the truth, it does put a spin on the trope, as Captain Marvel doesn't yet have her name.

There are jokes about the name Mar-Vell and Marvel, but that's as close as come to Carol Danvers getting the moniker here. And that's likely because of something that'll happen in Avengers: Endgame. At one point in the comics, it's Steve Rogers who encourages her to take on the Captain Marvel name.

There's a good chance they're waiting for that, since they'll be in Endgame together. It means they can avoid having two characters called 'Captain', as this will be Chris Evans' last movie, and means he can pass the mantle (and the torch) on to Carol Danvers by giving her the name Captain Marvel.
