MCU: What Captain Marvel Means For Avengers: Endgame

3. Carol Danvers Is Linked To The Infinity Stones

Captain Marvel changes the character's origin story, in part to avoid Green Lantern comparisons, but also to tie her closer to the rest of the MCU. As we learn in the film, Carol gets her powers from the Tesseract, which just so happens to be the Space Stone.

That's not only a cool link to the most prominent of the Infinity Stones, but it could also play a key part in the events of Avengers: Endgame. The Space Stone is one of the six currently sitting on Thanos' left hand, and now there's a character with a direct connection to it. And that might also mean there's a character who can destroy it too.

We saw in Infinity War that someone whose powers come from an Infinity Stone can then destroy said Stone, since Scarlet Witch was able to destroy the Mind Stone inside Vision's head. It stands to reason, then, that Captain Marvel might be able to destroy the Space Stone, which would significantly lessen Thanos' power and increase the Avengers' chance of defeating him. Sure, he'd still have five other Stones, but it's a good start.
