Mel Gibson opted to skip today's press conference for The Beaver in Cannes, citing "prior commitments" as the reasoning. Of course, we all know that the reality is Gibson simply wanted to avoid any tricky questioning which was sure to have come his way, following a tough few years which has seen him accussed of just about everything there is to be accussed of. Gibson follows Terrence Malick who wasn't present for yesterday'sThe Tree of Life event. Jodie Foster (director of, and co-starring in, The Beaver) was in attendance and supported her leading man, stating: "He was first on my list. He really understood the character in a way that was extraordinary. He was willing to go to such a deep place and expose himself and talk about something he knoews a lot about - struggling, wanting to transform himself." Mel Gibson is said to be attending tonight's red carpet screening, but "won't be talking". The Beaver has already bombed at the Box Office in America, taking only $100,000 when on limited release, but was met with warm applause at this mornings press screening in Cannes. It will hit UK shores on June 17th. Have you seen The Beaver?
