Men In Black International Review: 2 Ups & 7 Downs

7. The Dull & Predictable Plot

Men In Black International Tessa Thompson Chris Hemsworth

Though the MiB movies have always been better known for their characters, their world-building and their over-the-top set-pieces rather than their narratives, International feels especially lazy and low-effort in this regard.

The main story isn't much more than a breadcrumb-following exercise as Agent H (Chris Hemsworth) and Agent M (Tessa Thompson) fight off the Scum of the Universe across the globe, yet perhaps with better dialogue, action and character work, this threadbare approach wouldn't have been quite such an issue.

But every single story beat is insanely predictable, especially a third-act rug-pull that's intended to be the film's big "gotcha" moment, yet is ultimately telegraphed hilariously far in advance.

Even for the fairly unassuming standards of a blockbuster action-comedy, what passes for a plot here is lethargic, unimaginative and sure to be forgotten within hours of the movie ending.
