5. Transformers: Dark of the Moon

After the execrable Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, few had any expectations beyond Bay delivering another phoned in sequel that would probably infuriate us even more. To be fair to him, though, he listened to the criticisms of the previous sequel, and actually delivered what in many ways is the best of the three films. Yes, it's still got the goofy humour - Sam's parents are particularly insufferable - and it wastes excellent actors like John Malkovich and Frances McDormand (both blatantly in it for a quick payday) while boasting an enormously excessive run-time, but the story actually makes sense, and...what action! The almost hour-long finale to this film is easily the strongest set-piece in Bay's career, as Chicago gets completely laid to waste during the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons. What's more, it's a rare film where 3D truly enhanced the experience. Simply, this was an unexpected surprise; rough around the edges for sure, but exhilarating and exhausting all at once.
