Michael Fassbender: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Cal Lynch/Aguilar - Assassin's Creed (2016)

For all of the talk that Assassin's Creed was going to be the answer to the conundrum of why there'd never been a successful video game adaptation, the reality ended up being depressingly familiar.

In a movie suffering from a serious identity crisis and very poorly written despite how well the concept should have worked on screen, Fassbender is lumbered with such poor material that his attempt to be as moody and intense as possible to distract just make him look a little silly and joyless.

Usually, an actor of his calibre stands out, but Assassin's Creed simply dragged all of the very talented cast down into the quagmire of exposition and apathy that passed for its script. Back when he was cast, it looked like a coup to have such an exalted actor in a video game movie, but on reflection, it now just looks like a terrfyingly poor career move.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
