Michael Fassbender: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
You can't beat a bit of British kitchen sink realism, and for all of his reputation as a phenomenally intense actor, this somewhat lesser known Fassbender movie showed off a more subtle side to his range.
Along with newcomer Kate Jarvis, Fassbender is outrageously good as Connor O'Reilly, an amoral boyfriend of her mother who she sleeps with (despite her being only 15). It's a film that doesn't shy away from difficult material, and it crucially plays with the idea of morality. It's a provocatively uncomfortable film, and Fassbender's contradictory performance - at times generous and charming, at others manipulative and cynical - is the key to that story.
It's an ambiguous film, and an ambiguous role, and it offered a glimpse early on of Fassbender's ability to play such difficult to define figures.
