Michael J Fox: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
4. Jamie Conway - Bright Lights Big City (1988)
When mostly family or comedy film actors try to be dark and edgy, the results can be a mixed bag of Shia Labeoufs insistence on his own relevance and Adam Sandlers frustratingly brief flirtations with being an excellent actor. For Michael J Fox, the dark revolution came early with Bright Lights Big City, a coke-fuelled, chaotic journey to the bottom of the barrel for a young magazine professional with several problems. In Foxs puffy, red-eyed face, the film has its morality tale, which seems to waiver between telling you not to bother having dreams and not to give up on them. Its like watching an incredibly 80s version of The Lost Weekend, or American Psychos spirals of chemical and alcoholic debauchery without the psychosis, and Fox is irresistible.
