Michael J Fox: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Marty McFly - Back To The Future Franchise (1985-90)

In terms of acting prowess, Marty McFly probably isn€™t Fox€™s most impressive performance, but there€™s no arguing with the fact that it is both his most important and his most impactful. As Robert Zemeckis so shrewdly recognised when he harshly canned Eric Stoltz, McFly needed a very specific brand of charisma. And in Fox€™s subtle flourishes - the breaking voice, the over-active eyebrows and the perpetual backwards running - he found the perfect answer. While Christopher Lloyd€™s more flamboyant performance (and Crispin Glover€™s before he too was canned) stole more attention, Fox€™s more reserved, more clever performance as Marty was just as important. He€™s breathless and supremely likeable, somehow managing to be a hero not just for 1985, but for all time, and he deserves his position at the top of the list of cinema€™s most iconic characters.
