Michael Keaton: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
2. President John MacKenzie - First Daughter (2004)
Before this recent spate of poor career decisions Keaton was floundering a little, hopping from misstep to misstep like he was playing the floor is lava with whatever script got passed over his agent's desk. One of the forgotten (but equally as terrible) missteps was First Daughter. Where he plays the US President! Pretty cool huh? Except Forest Whitaker's (yep, that Forest Whitaker) (it's a mystery to us all) film doesn't focus on the day-to-day stressors of the Commander-In-Chief, a role in which Keaton might be particularly adept and entertaining to watch in. Instead, it's all about Katie Holmes as his rebellious teenage daughter. It's barely even that, in fact, since pretty early on the film she buggers off to college and doesn't have to spend all that much time dealing with life in the White House. So it's a pretty squandered premise, and Keaton is squandered in a part that would've worked well. If it was in a good movie.
