Michael Keaton: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
3. Monarch - Need For Speed (2014)
Not that he's learned from those two little recent slip-ups. But then Keaton isn't the only respectable actor who decided to sully their name with a lead role in Need For Speed, the video game adaptation nobody was clamouring for. Not that anybody in their right mind is clamouring for more of those, but especially not this. Need For Speed is, after all, a series of racing games. They don't really have plots. Just cars going fast. Which might just sound like the Fast And Furious franchise, and you'd be correct in that assertion. The makers of Need For Speed decided to differentiate themselves from that other petrol-fuelled bunch of movies. Which they did by deciding to make theirs a total bore. They brought on Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul as the hero, Dominic Cooper as his rival street racer, and somehow suckered Michael Keaton (somehow=big bag of money) into appearing as Monarch, an eccentric host of an "underground" supercar race competition who lives in a lighthouse and can't drive himself because of a heart condition. Yes, it is that stupid. But rarely so self aware.
